LONDON – This December, Black Panther star and Tony-nominated writer Danai Gurrira’s The Convert will premiere at the Young Vic.
Directed by Ola Ince, The Convert is set in 1896 in what is modern day Zimbabwe, and explores the high cost of faith. In our story, we follow Jekesai, a young Shona woman fleeing forced marriage and finding herself working for devout Catholic priest, Chilford. Chilford relishes the opportunity to shape his new convert but Jekesai soon learns that her salvation has a price.
Starring as Jekesai is Gurrira’s fellow Black Panther star Letitia Wright, who will be joined by Paapa Essiedu (Chilford), Ivanno Jeremiah (Chancellor), Jude Akuwudike (Uncle), Rudolphe Mdlongwa (Tamba) and Pam Nomvete (Mai Tamba).
This holiday season, take the time to reflect on faith in the 19th century, and join the Young Vic as they allow the religious drama to unfold over the course of this stunning, ambitious and harrowing performance.
The Convert plays at the Young Vic from 7th December 2018 to 26th January 2019. Tickets and more information available from the Young Vic
