The Singapore Symphony Orchestra presents sunny string ensemble Loco Motive Trio’s first concert of the year – “The Best Day”. Comprising award-winning local violinist and Loco Motive Trio founder Kam Ning, Orchestre de la Monnaie Orchestra principal cellist Sébastien Walnier, and Belgian double bassist Lisa de Boos, watch as the three friends come together to present a lineup of non-traditional music this March!
Don’t expect your usual programme of classical tunes; “The Best Day” is set to feature a set comprising multiple genres classical string instrumentalists rarely tackle, from bluegrass to country, folk to gypsy jazz. Al these genres are best illustrated with the word “fiddle”, but instead of the slow, emotive pieces we’re used to, think fast, folksy jigs and country nostalgia, improvisation and spontaneity.
Conducted by Lars Vogt, who will also be playing piano, songs in the lineup include Mark Summer’s Julie-O, David Balakrishnan’s Skylife, Stephane Grappelli’s Les Valseuses Limerockand multiple pieces by Mark O’Connor, the latter two of which spurred Kam Ning to founding the trio in the first place, best known for their improvisation, Says Kam Ning: “Bluegrass is hard to resist. It is full of joy, purity, it is literally a ‘what’s-not-to-love’!”
