Despite her 78 years, pianist Martha Argerich continues to astound audiences with her extraordinary capabilities at the piano, bolstered with a gift that defies comprehension, and must be seen to be believed. Having made her debut performance in Singapore as part of the 2018 Singapore Piano Festival, the legendary pianist left audience members wowed with her emotive, technically-brilliant performance, her notes leaving imaginations on fire. And even if you missed out, well, you’re in luck – Argerich returns this June for not one but THREE performances.
Presented by the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Argerich will perform with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, as conducted by fellow Argentinian Dario Alejandro Ntaca on 6th and 7th June. She will star as piano soloist in a different piano concerto on each night, taking on Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 and Rachmaninoff, and Tchaikovsky, Liszt and Brahms respectively. In addition, each night will feature rising Taiwanese violinist Benny Tseng Yu-Chien, the 2015 International Tchaikovsky Violin Competition 2nd Prize Winner, and First Prize Winner at the inaugural Singapore International Violin Competition in the same year.
On 9th June 2019, they will be joined by musicians of the SSO in a programme of chamber and solo piano music, taking on Schumann and more as they play at the Victoria Concert Hall as they show off the intricacies and intimacies of musical camaraderie.
With such a rare opportunity at our hands, both piano lovers and the curious alike can and should make a date with Martha Argerich this June to see the legend in action. There’s nothing quite like seeing her work her piano magic live onstage, demanding to be seen to be believed, and certainly, a massive musical treat for all the senses.
Martha Argerich plays at the Esplanade Concert Hall and Victoria Concert Hall on 6th, 7th and 9th June 2019. Tickets to be available soon from ticketing.sso.org.sg
