LONDON – Making her international playwriting debut this May, the Royal Court Theatre presents New York-based writer Anchuli Felicia King’s White Pearl. Directed byNana Dakin, White Pearl is set in Singapore, where Clearday™ has developed from a small start-up company to a leading international cosmetic brand in less than a year.

But when a draft of the company’s latest skin cream advert is leaked, the video goes viral globally for all the wrong reasons. YouTube views are in the thousands and keep climbing; anger is building on social media; and journalists are starting to cover the story. This is an international PR nightmare; the company cannot be seen to be racist- they’ve got to get it taken down before America wakes up. “It’s on BUZZFEED. It’s on BUZZFEED. We’re not defending it”

With a primarily Asian creative team, starring Kae Alexander, Farzana Dua Elahe, Arty Froushan, Katie Leung, Kanako Nakano, Minhee Yeo, Momo Yeung, with design by Moi Tran, lighting design by Natasha Chivers, video design by Ian William Galloway and composition and sound design by Nicola Chang, White Pearl raises questions of as we what’s ok or not ok to do or say in the age of instant reactions and snap judgments.

White Pearl plays at The Royal Court Theatre Bunker from 10th May to 15th June 2019. For more information and tickets, visit their website here
