This June, the Singapore Art Book Fair (SGBAF) returns for one weekend as art lovers and especially art book lovers head down to Gillman Barracks to stock up on their collection. The sixth edition of this free event is open to the public and features a selection of art books, art catalogues, monographs, zines, and printed ephemera, as over 80 local and international exhibitors showcase their selections of printed matter, published works and new launches.
Throughout the fair, expect to attend performances as well, by artists such as local sound artists Bani Haykal & Ferry, or an improvised Ambient Set by local musician Kin Leonn. A brand new open call showcase will also be presented during the fair, with a selection of self-published photobooks produced by 10 international artists and photographers. This provides opportunities for showcasing photo books by emerging artists and to encourage art book appreciation, as selected by Renée Ting, Director of Singapore Art Book Fair (SGABF); Yanda, Founder of Do Not Design; Gwen Lee, Director of Singapore International Photography Festival (SIPF) and Leanna Teoh, Co-Founder of THEBOOKSHOW.
In addition, guests can also look forward to an afterparty held on Saturday 29th June at Hopscotch (45 Malan Road, Gillman Barracks). Presented by Facebook Art Department, both exhibitors and fairgoers can come together to mingle as they enjoy local underground music by local collective Good Times. The party will be filled with booze and food for sale, accompanied by a line-up of underground DJs such as Reiki, Sadat and Itch with sounds that travel from jazz, city pop, 60s/70s garage, reggae, breaks to arabic funk and afropop.
The Singapore Art Book Fair 2019 runs from 28th to 30th June 2019 at the NTU Centre for Contemporary Arts, Block 43 Malan Road, Gillman Barracks. Entry is free, for more information, visit their website here
