Fresh off the win for Best Sports Event (International) at the Singapore Sports Awards 2019, the FINA Swimming World Cup Singapore 2019 presented by Yakult returns to the OCBC Aquatic Centre for a brand new edition from 15th to 17th August 2019.
This year’s edition will feature Olympic and World Champions including Singapore’s Joseph Schooling, Australia’s Cate Campbell, Emily Seebohm, Mitch Larkin, and Hungary’s “Iron Lady”, Katinka Hosszu. 2018 FINA World Cup Overall Champion, Vladimir Morozov of Russia, and Americans Michael Andrew and Blake Pieroni have also confirmed their participation. This year’s racing format will also see a change, with all legs featuring the long course 50m format instead of the short course 25m.
Says Mr Edwin Ker, Executive Director of the Singapore Swimming Association: “We are delighted to host world class athletes in the FINA Swimming World Cup Singapore 2019 Presented by Yakult. This will be the final opportunity for fans in Singapore to catch their swimming heroes live in action in Singapore before Tokyo 2020. On top of that, the long course format adds a dash of excitement as it enables athletes to use the event as an Olympic qualifier for Tokyo 2020. Fans will get the opportunity to get up close and personal with their swim heroes at swim clinics at the different swim clubs and at the Sports Hub Kallang Wave Mall when the swimmers hold a press conference on 14 August.”
Singapore swimmers featuring at the event include Joseph Schooling, Amanda Lim, Christie Chue, Teong Tzen Wei and Darren Chua. All will be aiming to bring glory to Singapore. Says Schooling: “It is always fun racing in front of a home crowd as we know how supportive they are of us. This year’s FINA Swimming World Cup also gives us the opportunity to get together to prepare and compete as a team before the SEA Games in the Philippines in December. We look forward to the competition and hope the fans will come along and support us.”
FINA Swimming World Cup 2019 runs from 15th to 17th August 2019 at the OCBC Aquatic Centre. Early-bird tickets to the three-day competition are on sale at 20% off standard rates till 30th June at www.sportshubtix.sg. Heats will be held at 9.30am and the finals at 6.30pm each day.
