Preview: Natsu Matsuri – Japan Summer Festival at the National Stadium

Get ready for the largest Natsu Matsuri event in Singapore, as the second edition of the Japan Summer Festival arrives at the National Stadium this September! Taking place over one weekend on 7th and 8th September 2019, Visitors can expect an immersive experience in traditional and popular Japanese culture, through activities such as the Bon-Odori dance, musical stage performances, the Pokémon Carnival and Pikachu Dance Parade, as well as Yukata try-outs, among others.

There are also plenty of Japanese tasty treats and products to pore over, among the over 100 booths showcasing authentic Japanese food and beverage, merchandise and games. Fans of Japanese food can look forward to savouring tasty Japanese dishes, such as Wagyu Rice Burgers, Deep-fried Cheese Mochi, as well as favourites like Okonomiyaki and Yakisoba.

In celebration of Singapore’s Bicentennial year, the Sports Hub Community Play Day will introduce the Heritage Challenge, an activity incorporating elements of Singapore’s traditional heritage. There will be various challenges comprising games popular in yesteryear such as Capteh, Five Stones, Jump Rope, Giant Snake & Ladders, as well as the nostalgia-infused OHANA Games commemorating the bicentennial year at this year’s event. Participants can form a team to take on the Heritage Challenge or try the individual activities at the try-out stations.

Games aside, fitness enthusiasts can work out under the dome of the National Stadium during the J-Pop Fitness Dance Jam session, while families can get a taste of kart racing with the Family Pedal Go-Kart where participants can compete against each other in “eco-friendly” pedal go-karts. Visitors can also sign up for the free annual Community Fitness Assessment, where participants are given the opportunity to keep track of their fitness progress and goals.

Whether you’re a die-hard fan of Japan or just want to experience what it’s like to be a part of a massive summer festival, then mark your calendars this September for the Japan Summer Festival, only at the National Stadium!
