Multi-award winning music artist Jassy Husk is performing a charity gala Truth on 16th April 2020 in support of The Substation. All proceeds will be contributed to The Substation’s 30th anniversary celebration programming.
Jassy Husk is an international award-winning, critically acclaimed artist who sings in both classical and popular genres. She has worked with the opera world luminaries like Dame Kiri Te Kanawa and Richard Bonynge Order of Australia CBE.
The agility of Husk’s natural voice coupled with a powerful timbre have led to effortless strides into avant-garde engagements with electronic dance music group, The Young Punx (2010); Dutch house group, Beatfreakz (2006) and a Europop album (2016). Her edgy musical interpretations then caught the attention of British DJ and international recording artiste, Pete Tong MBE, who featured Husk on his UK No.1 Album Ibiza Classics in 2017. Her collaborations with various artists have seen her work reach the top 10 hit parade in the UK. Husk has also been involved in film soundtracks such as The Hobbit and Snow White and the Huntsman.
Husk says, “I am excited to be performing a solo charity gala in aid of The Substation. Over the years, The Substation has worked with some of Singapore’s most critically acclaimed artists, writers and intellectuals, including Alvin Tan, Goh Boon Teck, Amanda Heng, Lee Wen and Kok Heng Leun and I am honoured to be contributing to this legacy of these terrific artists.”
Husk is performing a repertoire of popular and familiar classics: from La Vie en Rose, West Side Story’s Somewhere There’s a Place For Us to A Midsummer Night’s Dream . The audience will be immersed in the beauty of nature through pieces such as Songs of the Auvergne (Bailero) and Xinjiang folk song, Maylia Variations 瑪依拉變奏曲 .
Chew Kheng Chuan, Chairman of The Substation comments: “What has classical music to do with The Substation, one may ask? Ah, The Substation is full of surprises! Diversity is part of our very essence, and we are delighted to have Jassy, a classically trained music artist who performs in contemporary and classical genres, to be performing a solo show in support of our organisation. Audiences can be assured of a terrific evening of entertainment experiencing a world-class performance in our intimate setting.”
Raka Maitra, Artistic Co-Director of The Substation adds: “It’s always gratifying to see artists giving back to the arts. If artists don’t support and sustain the arts, our work, who will? It’s wonderful that Jassy is doing this for The Substation.”
