There’s no fast rule that states an art exhibition has to take place in a museum or art gallery. This April, shoppers will be in for a surprise as they can now experience an audio-guided art tour right inside a shopping mall after a hearty meal and a much needed retail therapy. Curated by Ode To Art gallery, The Art Passage aims to close the gap between art and its viewers – by displaying art in a casual setting.

Located on Level 3 of Raffles City Shopping Centre, The Art Passage will feature an audio-guided tour for an intimate and curated art session between the artworks and its viewers. All they have to do is scan the QR codes along the exhibition to enjoy an enriched audio experience.  Raffles City, which is managed by CapitaLand Mall, has always been a huge proponent of the arts. In 2018, it housed 90 “Singaporean Mickeys” decorated by notable personalities including local artists. This year, the mall collaborates with Ode to Art for an art-filled 2021.

Hong Zhu An at The Art Passage

The Art Passage will open with a voice-guided art tour featuring 66-year old local artist, Hong Zhu An from 1st April till 31st May 2021. 15 new works stemming from Hong’s research that started in 2020 will be on display – taking a more colourful turn and the artist’s own experimentation with colours. Brimming with optimism and positivity, his abstract paintings embody the simplicity of peace found at home with imageries like a lotus flower floating on calm waters. Hong’s works which have always been introspective and meditative stem from a deep seated contemplation where the artist himself is a proponent of balance. He mimics the rise and fall of emotions that define every individual in his works, constructing his visual form with mesmerizing brush strokes set against layer after layer of pigment washes.

Thereafter, Hong Zhu An at The Art Passage will be replaced with a continuum of international and local artists for the entire year – bringing art to the city, to Raffles City.

Hong Zhu An at The Art Passage runs from 1st April to 31st May 2021, followed by Utopia(s): Knakorn and Vani Hidayatur Rahman from 1st June to 31st July 2021, Lim Tze Peng at The Art Passage from 1st August to 30th September 2021, Art in Motion: Patrick Hughes and Patrick Rubinstein from 1st October to 30th November 2021, and A Family Holiday: Coplu and Eva Armisen from 1st to 31st December 2021, all at Level 3 of Raffles City Shopping Centre (opposite Mikuni).
