Preview: The Paiseh Pieces by The Second Breakfast Company

The Second Breakfast Company (2BCo) is set to produce its first ever musical, The Paiseh Pieces, in February 2023 at Wisma Geylang Serai (WGS). This production, presented in collaboration with WGS, revolves around three young adults, Tobias, Rina and Sara navigating adulthood in Singapore.

The three besties on the precipice of adulthood find themselves in difficult situations. Tobias, a struggling theatre actor, can’t seem to catch a break. Rina dreams of a future bigger than her modest background. Meanwhile, Sara seems to have everything going for her, but is it all too good to be true? The trio navigate the pains of growing up in Singapore and along the way, find out what it takes to get their life together… or at least try to.

2BCo is optimistic that The Paiseh Pieces will be a popular hit with young audiences here in Singapore and audiences will not be hard-pressed to find points in the musical that they can relate to; each character had been written to reflect pertinent adulthood issues from BTO housing, job security to finding one’s own passion. Adeeb Fazah, Writer and Director of the musical says, “This musical is our love letter to the youths in contemporary Singapore who struggle to follow what is considered as the normal path of life.”

The production is also backed by experienced and award-winning creatives with Nabilah Said as Dramaturg, Petrina Dawn Tan as Set Designer and Joanne Ho (The LKY Musical) as Music Director. The musical also features eight original pop-rock songs produced by rising star multi-instrumentalist and composer from Singapore, Bennett Bay, and with witty lyrics by up-and-coming songwriter, Stephanie Phang.

These songs form the backbone and life of the musical as each track encapsulates the joys and struggles a young adult faces, and will be performed by cast members Gail Belmonte, Kevin Brendan, Nadya Zaheer, Fiona Chua, Misha Paule Tan, Rino Junior John, Sharon Mah and Tan Rui Shan.
