On 25 April 2026, the lush grounds of Woodlands Botanical Gardens Community Garden will transform into an immersive stage for Temporary Bodies, a two-hour, multi-sensory Earth Day experience that blends dance, music, poetry, and augmented reality.
But this isn’t just another arts event, it’s an invitation to feel climate change, rather than just think about it. Curated by Kavitha Krishnan, the production dissolves the boundaries between performer, audience, and environment. Here, there are no fixed seats or distant stages. Instead, you wander, observe, and become part of the narrative, one that asks a simple but profound question: what does it mean to belong to the Earth?
Temporary Bodies is all about perspective. Through movement and storytelling, the experience unfolds around two ideas:
- We are guests: Our bodies—no matter our abilities—are temporary. We borrow space, resources, and time from the planet.
- Empathy for Gaia: Caring for the Earth isn’t an abstract responsibility; it’s as personal as caring for ourselves.
Rather than relying on climate statistics or urgency-driven messaging, the performance leans into emotion, because sometimes, feeling is what leads to action.
A defining feature of the event is its commitment to inclusivity. Performers include dancers from the Diverse Abilities Dance Collective, alongside collaborators like Under the Bridge Collective and digital creatives from Avventura. Adding another layer of depth is poetry by Catherine Joan Devadason, whose work reflects lived experience and expands the emotional texture of the performance. The result is a tapestry of voices and bodies, each one reshaping what performance, ability, and expression can look like.
One of the most powerful moments of the evening isn’t choreographed at all. Toward the end, audiences are invited to gather, stand together, and share personal reflections on “saving Gaia.” It’s a simple act, but in that shared space, surrounded by nature and strangers, it becomes something larger: a collective acknowledgment that responsibility for the planet belongs to everyone.
If you’re planning to go, think of it less like attending a show and more like stepping into an experience:
- Bring a picnic mat and settle into the garden
- Arrive early and soak in the surroundings
- Let yourself move, wander, and engage at your own pace
The event runs from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, with gathering from 3:30 PM near Block 134 along Marsiling Road. Admission is free, making it one of the most accessible ways to engage with both the arts and environmental reflection this Earth Day.
Temporary Bodies runs from 4 to 6pm on 25th April 2026 at Woodlands Botanical Gardens. Entry is free. More information available here
