This November, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO) welcomes Dutch conductor Kees Bakels as he leads the SSO and Taiwanese-American violinist Richard Lin in a special concert featuring six tales of love and loyalty.
Held at the Esplanade Concert Hall for one night only, Familiar Favourites: Tales of Love presents pieces by Rossini, Korngold and Tchaikovsky, where each piece tells the tale of a familiar love story that’s entered the stuff of legends. With the 150th anniversary of Rossini, the orchestra will be playing his Overture to La Cenerentola, a musical interpretation of Cinderella, while bringing in yet another tale of royalty with excerpts from Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty later on, bringing out the tale’s patience and protection. Finally, Richard Lin will be featured in Korngold’s Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 35, and audiences are set to be left awed by the 2015 Singapore Violin Competition winning violinist’s skills.
Audiences will also get a chance to meet Richard Lin up-close and personal in an autograph session, as well as engage in a pre-concert talk at library@esplanade. Come witness these fairy tales of love, beauty and virtue come to life under the leadership of the Principal Guest Conductor of the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra and the dulcet tones of one of this generation’s most promising and gifted violin soloists.
Familiar Favourites: Tales of Love plays on 15th November 2018 at the Esplanade Concert Hall. Tickets available from SISTIC
