It’s been less than a day since the tickets for the 2019 edition of the Singapore International Festival of Arts (SIFA) have been released, and some shows are already being snapped up like hotcakes.
Of these, it is music performance Ryuichi Sakamoto – Fragments that has already been completed booked. The one night only performance was priced at $150 per ticket for a limited seating, and those lucky enough to snag their tickets will get to watch Oscar-winning Japanese musician and composer Ryuichi Sakamoto, alongside Japanese multimedia artist and close friend Shiro Takatani (of art collective Dumb Type) in action.
While SIFA is currently looking into adding more tickets or shows for the public, those interested in either artist might instead turn their attention to a sister work that will also be making its Singaporean premiere at the festival. Titled ST/LL, the interdisciplinary performance-installation created by Shiro Takatani explores the idea of silence using lighting, media art, stage design (with pools of water even) and dance movement set to music by Ryuichi Sakamoto, all of which intertwines into a dream-like tableaux.
Other luminaries of the performing arts world and highlights that audiences can look forward to in SIFA 2019 include the likes of Simon McBurney, Sasha Waltz, Bill Frisell and Tadashi Suzuki. Commissioned by the National Arts Council and organised by Arts House Limited, Singapore’s pinnacle performing arts festival will be held from 16 May to 2 June. Featuring a line-up of iconic artists from around the world alongside the very best from Singapore, this is the second SIFA to be helmed by Festival Director, Gaurav Kripalani (2018 to 2020).
