What does justice look like when life isn’t lived in black and white? Just Maybe invites audiences into the everyday lives of people whose stories often go unheard, revealing the resilience, compassion and quiet courage that exist behind Singapore’s polished façade. Through heartfelt encounters, unexpected humour and moments of profound reflection, the production explores the human side of the legal system, challenging perceptions of privilege, fairness and community.

Directed by veteran theatremaker Jeremiah Choy and written by Jo Tan, the play is a coming-of-age journey that asks us to reconsider our assumptions about the people around us. As perspectives shift and unlikely connections are formed, audiences are reminded that empathy can begin with simply listening.

Told from the perspective of Kayleigh, a law student who believes she is the poster-girl for meritocracy, she resents that her graduation requirements include spending 20 hours of her time at Pro Bono SG – a legal aid institution – helping people she sees as freeloaders. Why should we provide pro bono legal support to people who can’t even manage to stay on the safe side of the law?

Then one day, something happens to make Kayleigh realised that it’s easier to fall through the gaps than she thought. And together with a diverse, surprising cast of characters that change her perspective of Singapore and the world, she finally learns to work for the fairness that every one of us should be due.

Commissioned by Pro Bono SG Ambassador Viviene Sandhu, Just Maybe shines a light on the importance of access to justice and the work of Pro Bono SG in supporting those navigating legal challenges. More than a theatrical experience, it is an invitation to reflect on the society we share, and the role each of us can play in making it more compassionate and inclusive. All proceeds from the production will go towards supporting Pro Bono SG’s work in providing access to justice for those in need.
