KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA – This December, Enfiniti Productions is bringing back the award-winning, family-friendly MUD The Musical for an all new production!

Set in 1857, MUD the Musical tells the story of the founding of modern Kuala Lumpur, before the tin mining boom of 1880 attracted an influx of pioneers from across the Asian region to the muddy confluence of the two rivers – Sungai Lumpur (now known as Sungai Gombak) and Sungai Kelang. Three friends, Mamat, Meng and Muthiah, come to the frontier town of Kuala Lumpur in search of opportunities and a new life. Through their journey, audiences will encounter a host of colourful characters, each with their own endearing personalities and stories, coming together to form the cultural mosaic of what we all now know as modern Kuala Lumpur.

Directed by Joanna Bessey with music directed by Saiful Ridzuan, this new production of MUD the Musical will be performed by a multi-talented cast comprising children and young actors from Enfiniti Juniors. MUD last ran for 3 years at Panggung Bandaraya KL, and was awarded by The Malaysia Book of Records for being the longest-running show in Malaysia. Audiences can expect participation in iconic scenes from history, such as the Great Fire and Flood of 1881, the Kenduri Kampung, and Joget Lambak, and will be performed in English, Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin and Tamil.

Says producer Tiara Jacquelina: “As a company, we make very deliberate choices about the themes for all our projects – I personally prefer stories with positive inspirational values, which contribute to the conversation of national unity. It’s our way of making a difference, from our little corner of the world. For locals who were born and bred in this city, my team and I wanted to help give ourselves a stronger sense of belonging and identity. With digital interconnectivity and globalization, we are now so much more in touch with the rest of the world – so I feel it’s ever more important for us Malaysians never to lose touch with where we came from, and to always stay “anchored” no matter where our dreams take us. I’m so very proud to see how our wonderfully talented, multi-racial young cast of MUD the Musical are so passionate and committed in sharing the story of their forefathers.”

MUD the Musical: The Story of Kuala Lumpur runs from 14th to 22nd December 2018 at The Platform, Menara KEN, Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, Kuala Lumpur. Tickets available here
