Preview: ‘Til The End Of The World, We’ll Meet In No Man’s Land by Theatreworks
“Silence is silence. What’s deafening is the strain to hear it through the thunderous throbs of my blood pumping through my veins. What are you? Where am I?”
This year, Theatreworks is set to make waves with Singapore’s very first women’s season of theatre, spotlighting female artists, and the specificity, duality, and impact of the Woman’s voice. The season opens with a brand new production conceptualised, written and performed by music artist Inch Chua, best known for her work in the local indie music scene.
Titled ‘Til The End Of The World, We’ll Meet In No Man’s Land, the piece will be directed by Okorn-Kuo Jing Hong, and was inspired by Inch’s recent expedition to Antarctica, examining the human condition and the space between passive optimism and hopeless analysis that comes with facing climate change. A land that has never known war, belongs to no nation, tribe or indigenous human race, Antarctica truly is one of the few no man’s lands still in existent in the world. As one of 80 individuals per year in the world to gain access, Inch’s chance to travel to Antarctica as a part of 2041’s International Antarctic ClimateForce Expedition, she’s back home with a suitcase full of stories, ready to tell the world all about her time in the seventh continent of the world.
Beyond having written her very first full length script, ‘Til The End Of The World, We’ll Meet In No Man’s Land will also see her play to her strengths and combine the stories with original compositions in a multi-sensory performance, complete with binaural technology experienced through individual headphones for each audience. Senses are heightened with the visual treat from the spatial and costume design, a variety of scents (or odours), and the in-ear binaural experience through each audience’s individual headphones.
This season, join Theatreworks and Inch Chua as they examine the human condition, the space between passive optimism and hopeless analysis that comes with facing climate change, and journey to the very ends of the Earth itself with ‘Til The End Of The World, We’ll Meet In No Man’s Land.
