After the blockbuster success of Ryuichi Sakamoto – Fragments, the first show for the Singapore International Festival of Arts (SIFA) to sell out within the hour of ticket release in February, organizers are set to release an additional 40 tickets for sale on a first come, first served basis once released this Wednesday, 24 April at 10am. A maximum of two tickets can be purchased per person, going at S$150 (excluding SISTIC fee) and will be a free seating performance.
The performance itself will see the collaborative works of Oscar-winning composer, Ryuichi Sakamoto and multimedia artist, Shiro Takatani, the founder of Japanese art collective Dumb Type, who will be involved in ST/LL, also to be staged at SIFA 2019 come 24th and 25th May at the Esplanade Theatre. ST/LL also utilises Sakamoto’s music, and explores the idea of silence through the use of lighting, media art, stage design and dance movement.
In Ryuichi Sakamoto – Fragments, audiences will be flung into the world of Sakamoto with a resplendent performance focusing on the improvisation and the sonority of everyday objects. The performance draws from Sakamoto’s latest solo album, async, an introspective reflection on the essential nature of life and death following the maestro’s own battle with cancer. Sakamoto’s intense, masterful playing is heightened by Takatani’s cinematic visuals, full of poetic metaphors with its evocation of natural phenomena.
Complementing the performance will be In Conversation with Ryuichi Sakamoto, an intimate talk with Sakamoto himself, where the musician will speak about his four-decade long journey in music and reflections on life, all of which shapes the music he creates. This 90-minute talk will take place on 23rd May 2019 at the SOTA Concert Hall. As one of the 21st century’s most important artists and musicians, don’t miss this chance to catch this rare opportunity to see the pianist in action so close to home, and be awed by his innovative technique and compositions at SIFA 2019.
Ryuichi Sakamoto – Fragments plays at the Esplanade Theatre Stage on 28th May 2019. Additional tickets to be released on Wednesday, 24th April 2019 at 10am, to be available here
