Preview: Here and Beyond by Toy Factory

This July, Toy Factory takes on the local literary scene as they adapt Singapore’s only local MOE prescribed literature text for ‘O’ Level students! In Here and Beyond (edited by Cyril Wong)12 quintessentially Singaporean stories charting the complexities, hardships and shared love and dedication to the Singapore we call home were collected from some of our most renowned local writers.

Now, watch as these 12 stories by S. Rajaratnam, Yeo Wei Wei, Goh Sin Tub, Simon Tay, Stephanie Ye, Alfian Sa’at, Suchen Christine Lim, Wena Poon, O Thiam Chin, Claire Tham, Philip Jeyaretnam and Felix Cheong are brought to life onstage. From a pregnant Malay woman defending a tiger lurking around her village to a man ruined from the aftermath of a financial crisis, watch as these unique protagonists each go through their own struggles and showcase an undying hope and Singapore spirit amidst the doubt and skepticism that plagues the world.

Here and Beyond will be directed by Toy Factory’s Associate Artistic Director Stanley Seah, and features an ensemble cast comprising Abby Lai, Darren Guo, Timothy Nga, Irfan Kasban, Jolene Wong, Tan Rui Shan and Rusydina Afiqah, with Petrina Dawn Tan and Tan Jia Hui rounding off the team as set/lighting and costume designers respectively. This July, join Toy Factory as they bring audiences on a journey through time and space into the myriad lives of national servicemen, local hawkers and other familiar Singaporean archetypes as Here and Beyond evokes what it truly means to be Singaporean.
