Preview: Octoburst! 2019 by Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay

In conjunction with Children’s Day, Esplanade’s annual Octoburst! children’s festival returns this October to bring a ray of sunshine to audiences’ lives! Programming a series of over 140 fun free and ticketed performances and hands-on workshops for all the family, Octoburst! aims for children of all ages to participate, play and soak in the moments of joy that the arts can bring.

This year, everyone is invited to join in the very special PIParade in celebration of Children’s Day on 4th October. Led by Esplanade’s rainbow-hued mascot PIP, and the talented kids from Kinderland Marching Band and Maha Bodhi School Symphonic Band, set to play familiar tunes before even more free performances at the Esplanade Outdoor Theatre.

Cerita Anak

Designed and curated specially for the young (and the young at heart), this year’s Octoburst! continues to celebrate of fun, friendship and imagination.Travel with friends on a journey of the senses from two different perspectives in Cerita Anak (Child’s Story) by Polyglot Theatre (Australia) & Papermoon Puppet Theatre (Indonesia). Inspired by Java’s seafaring history, audience members will get to do everything from traversing a strange ocean, to diving down to the bottom of the sea as they’re regaled by fantastic stories.

Tailor Made

Israel’s Train Theatre presents the award-winning Tailor Made, where a little tailor receives a note one morning to sew a perfectly-fitting coat by midnight. When midnight arrives, he embarks on a magical adventure as his sewing machine, scissors, thimble and other paraphernalia come alive, as told through minimal dialogue, creative puppetry and the power of imagination.

A Ladder to the Stars

While in the music and light driven A Ladder to the Stars by the UK’s Visible Fictions, we follow a little girl wishing to dance with the stars. Little does she know this wish is head by all the celestial bodies in the sky, and together, they dream up a wonderful plan for her.

All this and more at the three day Octoburst! festival at the Esplanade, promising a weekend of joy, friendship and fun for all as the whole family comes together to create art memories this October.
